PALM BEACH, FL – Michael Gargiulo, best known for his acquisition of three-letter blockbuster domain VPN.com in which he is an “end-user” for his “VPN” business looks to have something else “pretty big” on the horizon; a domain name brokerage business.
Although Gargiulo and I had talked before, I first learned of his brokerage business when I had the pleasure of meeting him “in-person” in Ashville at Rick Schwartz’s domain name gathering at The Omni Grove Park Inn (an absolutely spectacular hotel in North Carolina). We had a chance to “talk domain names” where I learned that not only is he an avid domainer, but he also represents (as broker) a slew of super-premium domain names such as DL.com, IA.com, FAV.com and of course, SouthernCalifornia.com.
You can see the full list at his website.
Having a keen eye on the geographic name space, I noticed a press release this morning, which included the below video for the sale of SouthernCalifornia.com which seems to represent a “clever and interesting” way to present some of the most important facts about owning a domain name in such a densely populated Mecca like Southern California and present those facts in a quick, simple, effective and not to mention, exciting way.
The state of California currently represents the largest GEO domain name sale for any U.S. location in history when that was attributed by Mark Thomas, Founder of VIPBrokerage.com, after he closed on his multi-million sale of California.com for $3 million earlier this year. What was at the time just a “Coming in Early 2019” splash page, now consists of a fully functional website. Unfortunately, California.com does not seem to rank that well in Google yet when I searched for it and looks to be doing PPC for the term ‘California‘, but that will probably improve with time (it’s amazing how things have changed over the years with that – diminished rankings and such for exact matches).
As a side note, Thomas of VIP Brokerage, another industry insider in the brokerage business, closes on some huge sales. One of those outside of the GEO blockbuster California.com was 01.com for $1.8M back in 2017. Thomas is also one of those domain insiders I would likely not know so well if not for my participation in domain name conferences, so if you are in the domain business and you do not make time to frequent domain name conferences, you really should consider doing so. I’ve been to a lot business conferences and trade shows in my career and domain name conferences are the best, most productive and often lead to meeting (as Michael will reiterate here) some of the most interesting and creative people in the Internet business.
What is looking quite positive for Gargiulo and his GEO domain client, is that “Southern California” represents 24.12 million (more than half) of California’s 39.56 million residents. Let’s wish them luck with their GEO domain name sale, which represents more than half a state with the largest population in the country.

I’d be interested to see what SouthernCalifornia.com goes for. I have SouthernHomes.com for sale.

Sounds like a great real estate domain for those who want to relocate down to southern states from up north, and there is a whole lot of that going on.

I think the background music of the video is not a good fit for a digital real estate advertisement and I don’t like it. Something more academic or invigorating would be better.

These videos always tend to want to be a little too flashy.

John, thank you for this! I hope you are well. Looking forward to seeing you in Austin. Let me know on any at https://vpn.com/domains
Have a wonderful rest of the week.
