CAYMAN ISLANDS – My.box Inc. has announced what they referred to as the groundbreaking “future of digital identity” in the domain name industry: the impending launch of their new “.box” domain, which they tout as the first-ever blockchain native, DNS-routable domain supported by browsers, email, and digital wallets.
According to a statement released by My.box Inc. Founder Josh Brandley, the .box domain enables users to integrate multiple aspects of their online identities seamlessly and securely on both Web3 and Web2 in a simple and straightforward manner.
The holder of ‘example.box’ is empowered with decentralized ownership and access to DNS record management, ENS integration, payments, Web3 authentication, Web3 messaging, websites, and email,” he said. “There are many great things happening at the intersection of Web3, decentralized identity, and domain names… we are the first to tie it all together with a powerful, easy to use product.”
Brandley says .box solves major issues experienced by previous blockchain-specific domains, mainly their incompatibility with traditional browsers and email services.
In contrast, .box is ICANN-accredited, recognized by the global Domain Name System (DNS), and supported by the Ethereum Name Service (ENS),” he said. “Both DNS and ENS have established substantial network effects, solidifying their positions as core infrastructure. .box is pioneering an approach that natively integrates the features of both systems, thus delivering a better experience for users.”
ICANN-accredited registry operator Intercap Registry is the company that currently owns and operates the .box TLD, in partnership with 3DNS and ENS Labs. Intercap Registry Inc. also offer .inc launched in 2019, .dealer launched in 2020, and .llp launching in 2024. Commenting on the launch, 3DNS CEO Paul Gauvreau said that he was very excited to be bringing .box to web users.
Bringing real world domain assets onchain improves almost every use case there is,” he said. “We anticipate that this product will be widely adopted by Web3 enthusiasts and newcomers alike.”
The .box domain is now in public Beta. Premium pricing will be available for early adopters starting at $7,680; that amount will begin lowering at fixed intervals over the next six days following the launch until reaching its fixed standard rate of $120. In addition, all .box domains will renew on an annual basis for $120. To search available domains visit: https://www.my.box
