PALM BEACH, FL – A new domain name registration service is hoping its partnership with Afilias and its “LGBT” theme will help spotlight its business, which caters to the LGBT community and offers domain name registrations such as the new “.lgbt” domain name. The service, PrideLife LLC (getpridelife.lgbt), also suggests other alternative Afilias sponsored gTLDs such as “.red”, “.pink”, “.black” and others.
The .lgbt TLD was delegated by ICANN in 2014 and shows just under 2,500 registrations worldwide according to nTLDstats.com with the majority of names registered through GoDaddy.com. The TLD spiked around mid-March when it had 3,070 names in the Zone file.
The news of this partnership was highlighted in DenverVoice.com a news publication which focuses on LGBT issues in the state of Texas. The “.LGBT” domain is said to be the first Internet address created specifically for connecting the “Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender” community, which is what “LGBT” stands for.
In May, ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, entered into a Registry Agreement with Top Level Design, LLC, (toplevel.design)a Portland, Oregon company, to be the registrar for another similar domain extension of “.Gay” which is expected to launch in a few days on October 11, National Coming Out Day in the United States. Top Level Design also administers “.design”, “.ink” and “.wiki”.
