BELLEVUE, WA. – Domain name registrar and registry services provider Identity Digital officially took over the management and marketing last week of the internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD) .AI for the Government of Anguilla, a British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean whose ccTLD has gained considerable popularity in recent years with members of the artificial intelligence community.
For years the small island country has been reaping a profit from the rising demand among companies and projects related to the artificial intelligence industry who have been wanting to register .AI domains for their own projects and business ventures.
For instance, the .AI domain has grown nearly 400 percent in the past five years, and the new partnership – originally announced in October 2024 and officially begun last week – looks to help grow the brand and reach of .AI while using Identity Digital’s resources and expertise to “add reliability and predictability to the infrastructure,” according to Ellis Webster, Premier of Anguilla. (Up until 2019 the title was known as Chief Minister, but an amendment to the Anguilla Constitution renamed it Premier.)
Identity Digital’s industry knowledge is unmatched, and we share a vision of sustainability,” he said “Together, we will be responsible stewards of .AI, guaranteeing its stability, security, and global prominence.”
Akram Atallah, CEO of Identity Digital, said that the partnership ensures that .AI will “mature into a trusted, recognizable and premier online destination even as it continues to experience explosive growth.”
Our goal is to offer country codes of all sizes a stable and resilient platform that delivers growth while connecting global users to their local communities,” he said. “This partnership unlocks growing revenue streams for the government to invest back in their people. We’re thrilled to witness the positive impact this will have on Anguilla.”
Some changes to the management of the .AI domain under Identity Digital’s care are that transfers will now include renewal time; Whois records for .AI domains now have the creation date and expiration date, which had been previously removed; and numerous technical enhancements, including strengthened scalability, security, and resilience, in addition to a faster registry system and enhanced protection against denial-of-service attacks and other threats.
Marketing and distribution will also be greatly enhanced, as Identity Digital serves more countries than any other provider, offering “greater access to .AI domains across diverse geographies and markets,” as well as providing a 24/7 global support system.
