As of the time of this writing the video has been watched over 5.2 million times. It explains, in layman’s terms (a very simple way), how Google works, at least, how Google ‘worked’ back in 2010.
The video includes Matt Cutts, who was at that time, Google’s quality search engineer. He also acted as somewhat of a communications contact between Google and the entire webmaster community. Cutts first appeared on the scene sort of secretly when he was one of only eight people on Google’s spam-cleanup team. Matt would hang-out on WebmasterWorld.com, a popular forum, and lurk around the message board offering Google advice and looking for ideas on how to clean up the web. He used the forums with a username “GoogleGuy” and people later got to know him as Matt Cutts. He later ran a personal blog where, sometimes he would directly answer questions from the webmaster community about search results. He also created helpful videos as the one shown here.
In 2014, Cutts left Google on what was expected to be a temporary leave of absence in order to help the United States Digital Service repair and rebuild the failed roll-out of Heathcare.gov website. In 2016 Cutts decided to stay with the agency, officially gave his resignation at Google on December 31, 2016, and became Director of Engineering for the United States Digital Service.
His “webmaster communications” role was replaced with John Mueller, who’s official title is Webmaster Trends Analyst at Google which he once described adding “Developer Advocate” at Google.
