NEW YORK, NY – If you’re looking around for a few good ways to confuse new prospective customers, you’ve got two new great opportunities to completely derail even your best marketing efforts; .LUXE and .PAGE new gTLDs have just worked their way into the mix.
Minds + Machines, the company behind .LUXE domain names, which are intended to serve the Ethereum, blockchain and security industry, has released the .LUXE domain which opens for general availability on November 6, 2018.
Google’s Charleston Road Registry, who is behind the second choice, .PAGE, is doing something a little different by requiring these sites have an SSL installed, otherwise, they will not even display correctly in browsers. New .PAGE domain names opened for general availability on October 9, 2018 so you can grab them just about anywhere they are being sold.
It will be interesting to see, specifically, how .page domains perform since they are backed by Google, the differentiator between success and failure with just about anything online. However, it is important to note that Google does not succeed in every endeavour it challenges itself with, such as the company’s social network desires which completely bombed despite their tremendous market influence.
If you have been reading my material and thoughts, at lease from time to time, you won’t be surprised to hear that I wouldn’t want to register a domain name using either of these extensions as they are probably 100 times worse than using a meaningful .org or .net, if I could not have the .com domain. I can’t really see why anyone else would either. I find these new domain extensions catchy, clever and neat, but I wouldn’t create a business on them. Take it from someone who’s already been there and done that; bad idea.
