NEW YORK, NY – During the 63rd International Public Meeting of global domain industry regulator, ICANN (between October 20-25, 2018) in Barcelona, Epik’s Rob Monster discusses “Forever Domains”, a registration service made available by Seattle-based Epik which allows a domain registrant to not ‘lease‘ a domain by the year, or the generally available maximum of 10 years, but to “own” a domain name, indefinitely. The interview was conducted by Filip Borcov of Website Builder service Site.pro.
I’m not sure what type of can of worms this might open (contractual agreement vs asset), but Monster says he is approaching ICANN to make it a common practice. To me it seems somewhat premature to offer it at this point prior to ICANN approval, but you can check out the video and see what you think about it yourself. The costs for a .com domain forever registration is $420.
There are a lot of circumstances where people for one reason or another need to have certainty that this is their digital brand and so we introduced the idea of a forever domain registration, we are leading the market and walking the stakeholders across ICANN the regulator of the industry, to make this concept of forever or freehold or permanent registrations more common and so epic is currently the only place in the world where you can buy forever registration and we’re working to make this cost-effective and commonplace.”
Robert Monster, who recently exited DigitalTown, Inc (Ticker: DGTW), is Founder, Chairman and CEO of Epik.com, a domain name asset management company.
